The series of paintings entitled "Matters" was created out of a love for the simplicity and raw beauty of matter. Through their simplicity, the works in this series connect with the roots of Oriental tradition, especially Japanese. They celebrate imperfection, which in Eastern culture signifies respect for nature and its forms. Their colors evoke the natural world. Earthy browns, warm terracotta, and the gray of rocks became the primary source of the sense of their color and surface. These often monochromatic, ascetic works are characterized by meditative calm, aesthetic simplicity, and timelessness. Irregular textures, cracks, and hidden markings on the surface invite the viewer to sensory perception and a deeper appreciation of the simplicity and beauty of imperfection.
